These tiny animals (about 1 mm long) are mostly globular (round) springtails. These are a few of a clump of 100+ springtails that appeared in an outdoor drainage conduit in a large field. I took this photo directly with a camera with a 60 mm lens. They were not put under a microscope; none of these animals was disturbed by this process. They were apparently suspended in the water that brought them together. Springtails were once considered to be insects, but that ended with discoveries of their much more primitive structure and physiology. Although they are not susceptible to many of the poisons that insects are, they are much more vulnerable to dehydration. They eat fungi. NOTE: You can get a print of this image, but none of the other wall-hanging mediums are available.
I'm a retired programmer who has found digital art to be a natural medium. I work steadily towards the goal of making this medium a respected art form, as much so as painting and photography are. To me, a piece of true digital art presents an original concept rather than simply being a photo with a filter or an AI software algorithm applied to it. Its style is unique to the artist without being tightly constraining. I also enjoy wildlife photography. I do not submit any originals; if you choose to buy any of my products, you can do that through FAA. There is no need to contact me personally! As is the case with every account on FAA, watermarks do not appear on purchased products. My website is at https://www.dpughphoto.com.
