A butterfly flies over to a group of (ten) birds in a colorful imaginary world in this large picture. Some are attentive, some startled, others reverent or eager, while others aren't paying attention at all. The subject of a social gathering of birds was inspired by the allegorical works (and the art that they inspired in turn) The Parliament of the Fowls by Geoffrey Chaucer and the Conference of the Birds by Farid ud-Din Attar (his pen names), a 12th-century Persian Sufi poet; however, my treatment of the subject is much lighter and arguably frivolous. This is a strange thing I like to do: to put a lot of meticulous work into producing a work that is somewhat humorous and offbeat. I enjoy the paradox of putting a great deal of effort into producing something that looks effortless.

I'm a retired programmer who has found digital art to be a natural medium. I work steadily towards the goal of making this medium a respected art form, as much so as painting and photography are. To me, a piece of true digital art presents an original concept rather than simply being a photo with a filter or an AI software algorithm applied to it. Its style is unique to the artist without being tightly constraining. I also enjoy wildlife photography. I do not submit any originals; if you choose to buy any of my products, you can do that through FAA. There is no need to contact me personally!
